From Light Years Away

Throughout history, the sky has inspired humanity across cultures and continents, becoming a place for myths and legends, shining from an infinite distance, traveling for hundreds and thousands of years.

From Light Years Away tells the story of the constellation Ursa Major. For the ancient Greeks, it represented Callisto, a nymph devoted to Artemis, who was seduced by Zeus. This act aroused the jealousy of Hera, who punished Callisto by transforming her into a bear. Years later, Arcas, Callisto’s son, while out hunting, was about to kill his own mother without knowing her true identity. To prevent the tragedy, Zeus raised them both to the heavens, transforming them into stars and granting them an eternal place in the night sky.

The work is divided in four continuous sections, depicting the love between Callisto and Zeus, Hera’s jealousy, Callisto’s loneliness and tragic fate, and the hunt led by Arcas. The score closes with a powerful and luminous finale, representing the transformation of mother and son into constellations and their eternal presence in the firmament, from where their legend has endured to this day. The work merges mythological storytelling with a sonic journey through space, evoking the immensity of the cosmos and the passing of time. It is a score of strong contrasts and intense energy.

From Light Years Away is the second of a series of works born from my fascination with the outer space and the firmament, following Orion, the Hunter (2025).

Desde la Antigüedad, el cielo ha inspirado a la humanidad a lo largo y ancho del mundo, convirtiéndose en una fuente inagotable de mitos y leyendas que nos brillan desde una distancia infinita, viajando durante cientos y miles de años.

From Light Years Away narra la historia de la constelación de la Osa Mayor. Para los antiguos griegos, esta representaba a Calisto, una ninfa seguidora de Artemisa, que fue seducida por Zeus. Este hecho provocó los celos de Hera, quien castigó a Calisto transformándola en una osa. Años más tarde, Arcas, hijo de Calisto, durante una cacería, estuvo a punto de matar sin saberlo a su propia madre. Para evitar la tragedia, Zeus decidió elevar a ambos al firmamento, transformándolos en estrellas y otorgándoles un lugar eterno en el cielo.

La obra se estructura en cuatro secciones sin interrupción, describiendo el amor entre Calisto y Zeus, los celos de Hera, la soledad y el destino trágico de Calisto, y la caza de Arcas. La partitura culmina con un poderoso y luminoso final, representando la transformación de madre e hijo en constelaciones y su permanencia eterna en el firmamento. Una obra que combina el relato mitológico con un viaje sonoro a través del espacio, evocando la inmensidad del cosmos y el paso del tiempo. Una partitura de grandes contrastes y una energía intensa.
